FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long does zoysia grass take to grow?
Zoysia grass is a popular choice for lawns because of its high tolerance to heat and drought. The best time to plant zoysia is between mid to late spring and early summer. If you plant zoysia grass seed, expect it to germinate in 14-21 days when it’s well maintained.
How many types of zoysia grass are there?
Zoysia grass is a popular choice among homeowners who want a lawn that requires little maintenance. Three types of zoysia grass are available: Zoysia japonica, Zoysia matrella and Zoysia tenuifolia. Each type differs in cold tolerance, texture and aggressiveness. Our SodPods Zoysia variety is hardy and a great performer in any lawn.
How to plant zoysia grass plugs?
Step 1. Start by testing your soil to make sure it contains the nutrients needed for a healthy lawn. The pH should be between 5.8 and 6.5, and you should apply fertilizer and soil amendment at the recommended rates. If you can’t conduct a soil test, apply a complete lawn fertilizer according to the package directions. Check out our NutriPod fertilizer designed specifically for SodPods.
Step 2. If your lawn is already established, mow it as low as possible. Make sure the ground is workable and moist enough for planting.
Step 3. Determine where you want to start and insert the shovel or auger into the ground to remove the grass and make a hole for your zoysia plug.
Step 4. Place the plug in the hole, filling in around its edges with soil. Lightly tamp it down with your heel or hand. Water lightly.
When does zoysia grass turn green?
Zoysia grass will green up about ten days after the temperature is consistently above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Zoysia grass conserves its energy until then, which is why it appears brown and dead during the winter months in certain colder regions.
